Debut exhibitor brings the ‘Funk’ to EAG Expo with AI-powered bowling transformation
A new era of bowling entertainment is set to hit London as Funk Bowling makes its debut at EAG Expo with Funk Nexus, a next-generation platform that fuses full-size and DuckPin lanes with dynamic, immersive and AI-powered game experiences.
Launched in 1964 by 22-year-old Karl Funk the company is promising to raise the bar with a compelling brand of competitive social entertainment aimed at operators seeking fresh, high-impact attractions with strong repeat-play credentials.
At the heart of the Funk Nexus system is a growing library comprising dozens of interactive, real-time themes that can be changed in seconds ranging from cosmic, futuristic environments to playful, family-friendly animations. Each experience is crafted to help operators keep gameplay fresh, boost dwell time, and stimulate return visits.
Alexander Funk, Head of Business Development at Funk Bowling, said: “Funk Nexus reimagines bowling for the social competitive era by layering dynamic digital experiences onto full-size and DuckPin lanes. It’s a single product which has a universe of possibilities. It’s easy to program, it delivers a unique brand of entertainment and it to elevates the player experience far beyond that of traditional bowling.”
In a step-change from traditional systems, Funk Nexus uses AI-driven lane reactions that respond instantly to every roll and pin hit. Animations burst across the lane as players level up, unlock surprises, or complete challenges, turning every frame into a show. The immersive effect is amplified through reactive lighting, creating a vibrant atmosphere that evolves with the action on the lanes.
The system is designed for operational efficiency, featuring self-service kiosks, smart queueing, centralised lane management, and integrated analytics. The infrastructure allows venue teams to focus on hospitality while Nexus intelligently manages flow, helping reduce labour requirements and increase revenue.
Every visual touchpoint including scoring kiosks, overhead displays, lane projections, and digital signage sync instantly when themes change, with no downtime or technical disruption. Operators can fully customise themes, lighting, and visuals to deliver unique experiences for a range of bookings including birthday parties, corporate events and bowling leagues.
Alexander Funk is looking forward to being part of what is the flagship show for the out of home entertainment sector. “EAG London is the perfect stage to show how Nexus helps venues stand out, keep groups engaged and tap into new concepts without rebuilding the lane itself” he stated. “We’re excited to meet partners who are ready to push the category forward. We are issuing an open invitation to operators and partners to experience Nexus live at EAG Expo and experience for themselves how we are taking bowling entertainment into an exciting and compelling new era.”
EAG organisers are focussed on continuing the upward trajectory enjoyed by the leading expo. The numbers attending EAG have increased by 69 percent since 2022 with the 2025 edition registering 4,306 unique visitors a 23 percent year-on-year uplift. A total of 1,973 businesses were represented in 2025 with 14 percent of visitors travelling to the London shows from outside the UK.
