Paul Williams-inspired Tech Seminar to debut at EAG Expo

Paul Williams-inspired Tech Seminar to debut at EAG Expo

EAG Expo has joined forces with arcade giant Sega Amusements International to deliver a hands-on practical introduction to arcade technology and pc anatomy including basic diagnostics and preventative maintenance. The free to attend Tech Seminar, which was the brain child of the late Paul Williams who sadly passed in October 2025 after a short illness, is aimed at entry level and intermediate technicians working in the industry and will take place 11.00 – 12.00, 13 January, Bacta Seminar Room 6, North Gallery, ExCeL London.

Topics being covered include: multi-meter functions, power vs logic in DC circuits, using input and output tests for fast, accurate diagnostics, understanding computer hardware, common tools and safety practices, key computer components, diagnosing hardware problems, hands-on basics including RAM, storage, power and cooling, preventive maintenance, and the big dilemma of when to repair and when to replace.

Justin Burke, Chief Operating Officer at Sega Amusements International stated: “The idea of the Tech Seminar actually came about at a meeting with Paul Williams, Nick Harding and myself early in 2025, so to execute it as a nod to Paul, as it was his idea, seems wonderfully fitting”.

Nick Harding, Chairman of EAG Expo added: “First of all I would like to express my sincere thanks to Justin and his team at Sega Amusements International for their diligence and insight in putting together this first of a kind seminar - it’s a great privilege for EAG attendees to be able to learn from the very best in the industry.

“EAG Expo is a ‘show by the industry and for the industry’ and the addition of the Tech Seminar inspired by Paul Williams, a giant of the modern industry, reinforces our steadfast commitment to meet the needs of every element of the land-based ecosystem.”

Sega’s Product Development and Technical Manager, Jay Knott who is curating the seminar, highlighted the importance of delivering practical ‘take-outs’ at what is the UK’s leading business event for the land-based industry. He confirmed: “This is the first seminar of its kind that we have undertaken and is exclusive to EAG. We aim to provide attendees with practical learnings which they can take away and build on. Equipping technicians with the principles underpinning machine maintenance will minimise the requirement to contact call centres, in the process reducing machine downtime.”

He added: “We are looking forward to welcoming attendees to what will be a practical and relaxed event set against the backdrop of the very latest games and product launches from many of the world’s leading brands. I can’t think of a better environment in which to learn and enhance understanding.”

Paul Williams passed on 14th October 2025, following a period of illness. A globally known and highly respected figure in the amusement industry, he was the driving force behind the company he led for more than two decades.
