A Quick Chat with Will Bollom, Managing Director of the Bollom Organisation

Will Bollom explains why EAG is such a valuable opportunity to see ‘amazing’ new products, his love for the industry and reveals a talent for public speaking which was acknowledged by acclaimed broadcaster and commentator Stephen Fry – no less!

What was your first career job and wage?

My first paid job was working in the Fish and Chip shop at Mumbles Pier. Not sure my exact wage but I remember feeling extremely wealthy!

What was your greatest accomplishment and what are you most proud of?

I like to think that’s all to come! I was very proud of the day that I bought Olympia in Weston-super-Mare from my father. A lot of sleepless nights between now and then however!

Who has had the biggest influence on your career?

I am really lucky to have worked with both my grandfather and father at an early age. Listening to both of them has undoubtedly shaped a lot of who I am today. I still hear grandad’s little lessons even now

What are you looking forward to most from January’s EAG?

It’s always great to catch-up with friends and have an opportunity to look at the amazing new products that are available.

Which industry figure do you admire most?

I don’t think you can narrow that down! There are so many amazing and creative people in our industry and every person has different strengths. I am really fortunate to know so many people in our industry and you are guaranteed to learn something new from each and every one of them. From small single site operators like myself, to directors of huge multi-site operations.

What role have you enjoyed most?

I love operations! Getting to see customers every day and tweaking the product we offer them is always fun.

Who has been the most influential person in your life and why?

Undoubtedly my father. Not only did I inherit his devilish good looks, but also his love for this industry!

How do you define success?

I think this changes every single day! To me it really is all about little battles and small wins

How do you manage stress?

Years of boarding school taught me to internalise everything! Not a technique I recommend! But walking the dogs every day regardless of the weather always makes me feel better.

What are your career regrets?

None! Hindsight is always 20/20 and completely useless!

What inspires or motivates you?

This has changed over time. It used to be private jets and classic Ferraris! Now its all about my family at home and working for them.

What advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?

Get ready for life every single day, because its ready to punch you right in the mouth!

Something about yourself that’s not on your CV?

I won the School Public Speaking Cup in 1994 with ‘the greatest Vote of Thanks ever’ according to Stephen Fry

In a sentence what would you change about the industry?

I would like the way the industry is perceived to change, we are great employers, we look after all our customers so well and we are proud about what we do.

What’s your Desert Island Disc?

Anything by Metallica
